Here’s a collage of photos from some of the artists-  Nathaniel RussellRuss PopeGregg Kaplan, Marco Zamora, and Mike Giant - who recently decorated the Vans Pro Bowl, inspired by the legendary Skatepark du Prado bowl in Marseilles, France.

Don’t forget you’ve still got time to check out the Vans US Open of Surfing  which continues Saturday, July 27th and Sunday, July 28th with events like the Van Doren Invitational Skate, Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational, and Joel Tudor Documentary Premiere.  Check out the entire schedule and don’t miss out!

Check out some more coverage from the Vans US Open of Surfing via Torrey Cook of AR4T Gallery.

The other thing about this years Vans US Open is the art. Vans has always been true to the culture of surfing and skateboarding. We all know that skateboarding and surfing are historically more expression than sport, but sometimes in the wake of big sponsored events it’s hard to get that point across. This year on the skate side of the US Open, the family at Vans came up with The Van Doren Invitational where the worlds best skateboarders will compete. Being true to skateboarding, it’s not just ramps and bleachers set up on the sand. Vans spent extra time building a tribute to the famous Marseilles France Skate Park. A legendary spot. Russ Pope brought in a crew of heavies to paint – Mike Giant. Rich Jacobs. Nathaniel Russell. Neil Blender. Matt French. Zio Ziegler

Make sure to check out the additional photos and read the rest of the article on the AR4T blog.

Some more shots from the Vans US Open of Surfing I took of the artists - Mike Giant, Rich Jacobs, Nate Russell, and Russ Pope - working on sections of the concrete bowl.  Neil Blender, Gregg Kaplan, and Marco Zamora stopped by as well. Don’t forget to hashtag #vansusopen so we can check out your pics.
