Opening from Jay Howell & Christopher Kardambikis Show at Double Break

SAN DIEGO, CA: Artist Jay Howell and Christopher Kardambikis’s show opened July 22nd at the Double Break last weekend. While I was unable to attend, here’s some photos from the opening courtesty of Mike Maxwell, Ms. Crystal Barnes, and Louis Schmidt co-owner of Double Break. Looks like a great show and nice turn out. Jay showed some of my favorite pieces, and I’m digging Kardambikis’ works as well.

Back In LA: Mike Giant
Mike Giant was recently visiting Southern California for the opening of Pasadena Museum of California Art’s Getting Upper: Graphic Designers and Artists Reconsider the Alphabet, a group show he’s in that was inspired by language-based experimentation from 26 artists, each re-imagining a letter from the alphabet. He continues his trip down to San Diego to visit some buddies.
Check out some more photos from his trip on his Rebel8 blog.

I’m back in LA now, chillin’ in my homie’s guest house. I had an awesome time in San Diego. I arrived Sunday afternoon and linked up with artist friends Mike Maxwell and James Brisk. Brisk told us about something called “Slappy Sundays” so we headed out to George Dewey Elementary School to grind some curbs! This is James and I with legendary SD skater Kien Lieu.

Artist Mike Maxwell also does some really insightful artist interviews on his podcast, LIVE FREE. Mike has an upcoming show, Extra Sensory, May 20th at Subtext Gallery in San Diego. For more info, you can check out the event info.
That evening I hooked up with my old friends Bobby and Carl from Tribal.
Live Free Podcast #34 With Guest Travis Millard

Another great episode from artist Mike Maxwell’s free podcast, Live Free Podcast, featuring artist and Vans collaborator Travis Millard. Live Free Podcast #11 w/ Guest Kelsey Brookes

Mike Maxwell’s Live Free Podcast has some of most interesting artist interviews online (I say “has some of the most” because I haven’t listened to all of them yet)… Check out this interview Mike did with Vans collaborator and visual artist Kelsey Brookes. They talk science, art, Berlin, galleries, mushrooms ;) , yoga, Banksy, surfing, and London. Listen to the Kelsey Brooke’s interview.
Director: Jeffrey Durkin. Producer: Allen Passalaqua. Music: The Silent Comedy. I spotted a nice blog post on welovecreativity.com about a documentary entitled Working Class, loosely based on Charles Dickens book, A Tale of Two Cities. San Diego artist and LIVE FREE podcaster Mike Maxwell and Vans collaborator Mike Giant start in their big screen debut to discuss the themes found in Dickens novel and how they are still relevant in today’s society. Make sure to keep an eye on the release date of this film!!!
